What we collect
When you join or sign in
- Your name, email address and password. Passwords are stored only in a protected, scrambled form by our sign-in provider; nobody at EFF can read it.
- Your school, chapter, major, classification and expected graduation term, and, if you choose, a profile photo.
- On a chapter or program application: the answers you give, such as a phone number and why you want to join.
When you take part
- Events you RSVP to or check in at, service hours you submit (with any proof photos you upload), courses you take and certificates you earn, offices you hold, and applications you send.
- Dues and orders: what you paid and when. Card payments are made on Stripe's secure checkout page; your card number never reaches EFF. If you upload a receipt instead, we keep the receipt to confirm it.
- Merchandise: the name and shipping address on an order, shared with Printful, which makes and ships it.
When you ask for help
- Care, prayer and help requests go only to the person you choose (your chapter's chaplain or president, or EFF National). Anyone notified is told that someone asked, never what you wrote.
- Journey's Release Box and anonymous notes are stored with no name, email or IP address.
From the EFF app
- If you allow notifications: a push token for your phone, its model name and the app version, so we can send your notifications to the right device. Signing out turns that phone's notifications off.
- We do not collect your location, contacts, photos library, browsing history or advertising identifiers. Where a tool offers "use my location", it works it out on your phone and does not send it to us.
How we use it
- To run your membership: your member card, your chapter, events, service hours, EFFective Learning and your record.
- To tell you what matters: emails and notifications about your chapter, your offices, your applications and things you asked for. You can change email preferences in MyEFF and turn notifications off in your phone's settings.
- To keep the records our Bylaws require, such as officer terms, service hours, training certificates, dues and appeals.
- To keep the platform safe and working, and to fix problems you report.
Who can see it
- You can see your own record in MyEFF.
- Your chapter's officers see the roster information they need to run the chapter.
- Other members see you only if you turn on the member directory, and then only your name, school and the details you choose. A chapter website lists you only if you opt in, as first name and last initial.
- EFF National staff can see member records to support chapters and members. Every change they make is logged.
- Service providers who run parts of the platform for us, under their own privacy and security commitments: Supabase (database and sign-in), Vercel (hosting), Resend (email), Stripe (payments), Printful (merchandise), Expo (delivering app notifications) and Google Fonts (typefaces).
We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
Closing your account
In the app, go to Me → Delete my account. On the web, go to my.estherfundsfoundation.org/account/delete. You can change your mind until it is done. Within 7 days EFF National will:
- remove your sign-in for good, so the account can no longer be used,
- take you out of every directory, chapter website and listing, and remove your profile photo,
- turn off notifications to every phone you used, and
- email you when it is done.
Some records must be kept after an account is closed because our Bylaws and nonprofit record-keeping require them: offices held, service hours, training certificates, dues and payment records, and appeals. They are kept only for that purpose. If you would like us to erase more, write to nationals@estherfundsinc.org and we will tell you what we can remove.
Your choices
- Correct your profile in MyEFF at any time, or ask us to correct anything you cannot change yourself.
- Ask for a copy of the information we hold about you by writing to us.
- Turn the member directory and chapter-website listing on or off in your profile.
Children
MyEFF and the EFF app are built for college students and adults and are not directed to children under 13. Black Girls Read & Rise, a reading program in the EFF family, lets a parent add a child; it keeps only the child's first name, last initial, grade and state, and the parent can ask us to remove it at any time.
Security
Information is sent over encrypted connections, access is limited by role inside the database, and staff actions are logged. No system is perfect; if we ever learn of a breach that affects you, we will tell you.
