Privacy & safety

Safe by design.

Our promise to every family. We collect as little as possible about children, and parents are always in charge.

Parents are in charge

Girls in kindergarten through 8th grade can only become members through a parent or guardian’s account. A high-school girl (grades 9–12) can sign up herself, but her membership does not start until a parent or guardian approves it from the link we email them. A parent can remove a membership at any time from the family page.

What we keep

For a parent or guardian: email, name and state. For a reader: first name, last initial, grade and state, and the reading minutes and book titles her family logs. For a high-school member: her email and her parent or guardian’s email.

What we never collect

We never ask for a child’s photo, birthday, address, phone number or school. Members cannot message each other, and no child’s full name is shown publicly.

How we use it

Only to run Black Girls Read & Rise: to sign you in (with an emailed code, never a password), keep her reading log, send newsletters and book club reminders, and understand how many girls we serve. We never sell or share it with advertisers.
