Rise Tutor

Every sound. Every word. Rise.

Step onto the stage with Rise. She shows you how, you try it together, then you shine on your own. Little Readers build the sounds inside words; Rising Readers build smooth, strong reading.

Hi, I'm Rise. Pick a step and I'll show you how.

The Sound Studio

Phonemic awareness is hearing and playing with the sounds inside spoken words. It comes before reading print, and it's one of the strongest predictors of learning to read. Eight steps, from rhyme to swapping sounds.

  1. Syllable DrumsClap the beats in a word.★★★
  2. First SoundHear the very first sound.★★★
  3. Last SoundCatch the sound at the very end.★★★
  4. Middle SoundFind the sound hiding in the middle.★★★
  5. Blend ItPush the sounds together to make a word.★★★
  6. Break It ApartTap a block for every sound.★★★
  7. Sound SwapChange one sound, make a new word.★★★
For grown-ups

Sit beside her and say the sounds out loud together. The computer’s voice can’t say a short sound like /t/ on its own, so it says the key word (“t, as in top”); you can model the pure sound. Five to ten minutes a day beats an hour once a week. Stars stay on this device only.
