The highest take-home is marked, but it isn’t the whole story: benefits, what you’ll learn, the people and the schedule with your classes matter too. Thinking about how pay affects your aid? See Side Money Without Losing Aid.

Questions to ask before you accept

  1. What will a normal week look like, and who will I report to?
  2. What is the pay, exactly, and when and how often am I paid?
  3. How many hours a week, and is overtime paid?
  4. Is it in person, hybrid or remote? Will I need to travel?
  5. What benefits come with it, and when do they start?
  6. For an internship: is there housing or a stipend, and is there a chance of a return or full-time offer?
  7. Can my start date or schedule work around my classes?
  8. When do you need my answer? (It is normal to ask for a few days.)
  9. Can I have the offer in writing?
  10. Is there room to discuss the pay? (It is okay to ask politely once.)

A real employer never asks you to pay for training, equipment or a background check before you start, or to deposit a check and send money back. Check an offer.
